Grounds: Own, private space.

Enclosed: Yes.

Other dogs: Yes, there are 12 other socialised dogs, and 12 cats, on the owner's enclosed part of the farm. All of the other 8 holiday cottages on the farm are also pet-friendly, but they are also all enclosed.

Walking dogs on property: Yes, there are specially designed hiking routes where the dogs can walk off-lead, and there are even two special 'doggy pools' in the communal pool area!

Would we leave our dogs alone and go to the shop? Should you wish to leave your dogs Stone Hill can arrange a pet-sitter for your cottage. They can also recommend several pet-friendly restaurants in the local area.

The most remote of nine pet-friendly detached cottages scattered around the gently undulating Stone Hill farmland on the outskirts of Magaliesburg, Cabbage Tree Cottage is perfect for a couple seeking a cosy bolthole with stunning mountain views.

The cute interior has a wood-burning stove in the open-plan living area and a fitted kitchen, whilst the air-conditioned bedroom contains a king-size bed and a large window overlooking the grounds. The bathroom features both a bath and shower, whilst the full-enclosed garden contains a lawn, stone-built braai, verandah and outdoor shower.

The farm has over 5km of hiking routes designed specifically for walking dogs off the lead, one of which follows a river; and there are even designated dog pools in the farm’s communal pool area.

Other potential highlights include warm home-baked bread and fresh farm eggs delivered to your cottage, along with possible visits from the resident Shetland ponies.

All of this just about an hour’s drive from the centre of Johannesburg. The perfect weekend escape for you and the dogs.

For anyone that has visited Western Cape Mountains, Gauteng mountains are more of very large hillsides. Not in anyway less pretty than their Western Cape cousins, Gauteng mountain escapes typically offer lush green getaways on farms, sometimes with rivers offering a forest like feel.

Mountain side pet-friendly getaways include a variety of accommodations from guest farms, houses, cottages and campsites. Most are usually pretty exclusive with vast open areas, and sometimes even rivers, typically built on a farm.

There are numerous activities and natural attractions within a 30 minute drive of Stone Hill Farm - not least the awesome Cradle of Humankind Visitor Centre, and the spectacular Sterkfontein Caves, both amazing places to trace back the ancient history of the human race.

Even more accessible are the Magalies Wild Game Farm, and zip-line canopy tours, and Hennops hiking and mountain biking trail, whilst for the less energetic there are also three top-class days spas just a few km away.
