Pet-Safe Rating
Overall Pet-Safe Rating: 5
We totally fell in love Assegai House in Robertson. It rates a 5 out of 5 on our Pet-Safe rating! Here you can bring your dogs knowing that the entire family will have a peaceful stay. Fully enclosed with a double perimeter fence around a massive garden, perfectly safe for the pups. You will just need to bring all your own doggie accessories.
Grounds: Own, private space in a massive garden. Manicured lawns, big trees and shrubbery along the perimeter. Outside fence, shares a communal swimming pool area with the Tipi tented accommodation (also pet-safe!).
Enclosed: Completely fenced in garden area, with double perimeter fence along two sides of garden.
Other dogs: There are friendly resident dogs, but they stay at the main homestead and do not venture out of their yard. They are visible from the lower end of the garden and deck area, but generally keep to themselves. Whilst we were there did spot two other dogs from the neighbouring farms, however they are usually on lead. The getaway takes extra precaution not to book too many people with dogs, so you can be pretty assured that you would be one of maximum two accommodations that may have dogs. Ask if you're unsure, but the Tipis are pretty out of sight, so you wouldn't really come in contact with dogs staying there even if there are. All areas outside of enclosed areas are on-lead only.
Walking dogs on property: There are about four different hiking routes on the property ranging in various levels from gentle stroll (~35 min) to longer hikes of up to 3-4 hours. Outside of Assegai's enclosure there is a large communal area that is also really pleasant to walk your pups on if you don't want to take a longer hike. There is a communal pool area here as well, but dogs are not allowed inside the fence. Keep an eye out though, as a wild herd of cows roam this area freely. Dogs must be on leads in this area, and we recommend that you stay away from the cows. They are wild. Dogs will be able to see them through fencing, but there is double fence and if your pooch does not make too much of a fuss, you'll be fine :) Cows tend to stroll through this paddock in the morning and evening and do not stay here long anyway.
Would we leave our dogs alone and go to the shop? Although you would be able to, we would not.
Lowest fence height: There is a section around the sundowner deck that is open, but the deck is high (about 2m). If your dogs will jump off high places to chase things, we don't recommend it.
Highest fence height: 1.6m all-round.
Fence material: Wood & wire. And there is a double fence on two sides (where the cows are). It's called "bonnex fencing" and is a rectangular-shaped wire fence. The rectangles are about 15x10 cm - so a smaller dog may be able to squeeze through at a push, however medium to large dogs will be perfectly contained.
