Honne-Hemel directly translates to Doggy-Heaven, and the getaway is named after a much loved family pet, Oubaas who crossed over the rainbow bridge. The owners of the house live close-by, and are incredibly nice, down-to-earth people that will welcome you on arrival, and immediately have you feeling at home.
Oubaas sleeps up to 6 people, has stunning ocean views and is a short walk to the beach. The getaway is unpretentious, but incredibly comfortable, and you'll feel at home, especially with the dogs. There are three bedrooms, the primary bedroom has a double bed and en-suite bathroom, both the other bedrooms have single beds and share a bathroom.
A fully fitted kitchen will have you feeling right at home. We’ve heard that the kitchen is incredibly well stocked with all basic amenities as well as braai tools. A separate dining room with table for six, and a cosy fireplace for cooler evenings. The lounge is comfortable with TV that has basic DSTv channels, and leads out to the stoep and braai area.
Due to the remoteness, during peak season there is sometimes a shortage of water, so use water sparingly, and there may be an occasional electricity outage, but the house is well stocked with candles and lanterns.
Honne-Hemel is not close-by, and the ideal break for those that want to get away from it all for a little longer than a weekend. This is ideal road-trip material, and located about 6 hours from Cape Town. If you’re planning a trip here, there are some great places to stop along the way to stretch the legs, and we’ve heard the end destination is well worth the long drive! We also suggest to book at least a long-weekend, or min 5 days, as the initial drive there is so long. The last stretch is a long gravel road for about 90km from Garies, which we’ve heard can be a little testy. You don’t need a 4x4 to drive here, but we suggest your suspension is in good shape. Honne-hemel is about 200km from Springbok, and would also make a splendid stop-over on road-trip to Namibia! The closest petrol station is in Koiingnaas which is 22km away, so make sure you fill up before leaving Garies too.
