Klein Paradijs rates a very high 4/5 on our pet-safe scale. We marked them down due to open spaces being shared.
Grounds: Own, private space.
Enclosed: Enclosed with low wall.
Other dogs: The owner has three Ridgebacks, but they do not venture to the cottages. In turn, please do not let your dogs venture to the main guesthouse. The large cottage is close-by, and if there are dogs, they will share the open space with the Small cottage. The neighbours on either side have dogs, and we did see them, but they are were fenced up - although we aren't sure if they ever try to come across to the farm & cottages.
Walking dogs on property: You can walk around the cottage, to the dam and up the mountainside, however just make sure to keep an eye on any wandering dogs. Also it is a farm and there are snakes - so keep an eye out, especially during summer.
Would we leave our dogs alone and go to the shop? No.
Lowest fence height: 1.5 meters
Highest fence height: 1.6 meters
Fence material: Concrete wall.
Klein Paradijs – Small Cottage
Klein Paradijs is located on a guest farm with a couple of cottages, but only two of which are Pet-Safe. The smaller cottage sleeps 2, and the Large Cottage sleeps up to 6 guests. It is based on a fynbos estate of over 140-hectares, and located on the Cape Overberg’s Whale Coast near the popular seaside resorts of Pearly Beach and Gansbaai.
The Small Thatched Cottage sleeps two people and is a really cozy stay. We stayed here during early September and it was still a little chilly out. The bedroom has a double bed, a fireplace and en-suite bathroom with shower. What we loved most is the fireplace in the bedroom - it was really cosy at night! The kitchen/dining area is fully equipped and has an indoor braai - which is really great for inclement weather. Both the fireplace in the bedroom and the braai in the kitchen draw air out really well - so there was no volumes of smoke in the cottage at any time.
There is a small sitting area as you enter through the front door. It leads between the bedroom and the kitchen. We mostly sat outside by the table in the courtyard during the day and early evening to enjoy the sounds of nature and the beautiful skyline and stars at night.
The grassy yard is surrounded by a low wall, making it secure for up to medium sized dogs and there is quite a lot of space for doggies to run even if you don't take them beyond the cottage itself.
The small & large cottage are within view of each other, about 200-300 meters apart - however the enclosed yards do not face each other - so if both cottages are occupied with pet-families, the dogs won't see each other - unless they are outside of the enclosed space.
There is loads of walking space and a dam at the beginning of the pathway leading up the mountainside, nestled between rows and rows of proteas and fynbos. The dam has some bass if you'd like to try your hand at fishing (catch & release), and may be swum in for humans and furkids alike. There is a kayak and a small boat anchored on the shores which guests may also use.
Small Cottage is closest to the dam and pathway.
The sounds of nature, and the amount of birdlife is fantastic and so peaceful! There was a small family of Fish Eagle that lived close-by and they had a juvenile Fish Eagle as well - calls could be heard quite far, and they would circle above the dam.
Evening sunsets and sounds of nightlife are spectacular.

Beaches – WC
Could there be any better way to let your dogs express their freedom than a day at the beach? Carefree running, digging and playing in the waves, and lucky for us, our dogs don’t really care about the temperature of the ocean for them to enjoy it to their full extent.
Beachside accommodations range from establishments close to or sometimes even on the beach. It depends on your dogs and also the kind of weekend you’d like away.
Some of our favourite destinations include: Yzerfontein, Langebaan, Knysna
The cottage is on a 140-hectare estate and an excellent place for a restful weekend break, or stopover on your way to or from the Garden Route, or an ideal base for hiking, bird and whale watching and shark cage diving. Nearby hiking opportunities include climbing the Wolfhuiskop with its breathtaking view (274 m). Guests are also welcome to explore the local fynbos, accompanied by an accredited guide if desired.

The cottage catered for all our needs (no TV but we were not looking for a place with TV). Our dogs loved walking around the dam and up the mountains. Wide open spaces so you can see far. There is a small enclosed court yard if you had to quickly go somewhere but I would not leave my dogs alone at a strange place.
The fireplace in the room was a big treat and there is a lovely indoor braai in the kitchen should it be cold or raining. The host was very friendly and accommodating. It is also just a short drive to Pearly Beach to take the dogs for a beach walk. We drove to THE DAM, a bit further but with the most amazing beach where you can walk very far with your dogs without any distutbance.
